The #srusmchat stands for Slippery Rock University Social Media Chat and is a component to the Social Media course offered in the Department of Communication (#srusm is for the course). As a side note, this hashtag has no reflection on the university's social media presence, but strictly used for my course.
For this assignment, students work in their final project groups by organizing a chat for one week throughout the semester. Chat discussions are based on what topics we are discussing in class that week and students select which week they would like to conduct the chat. They are responsible for creating questions, promoting their chat and conducting their chat for one hour.
Students have been able to get current students, alumni, students/professors at other universities, and even companies/brands to participate in the chats. I feel it has been a very valuable experience for the students, because it allows them to connect the concepts they learn in class with individuals, companies, and brands who use social media in their everyday professional lives.
Want to participate?
We welcome anyone who would like to learn more or contribute their experiences using social media to join our chats. Just keep an eye on the #srusmchat to see what day/time students will be conducting the chat every week.
